What is Entrepreneurs Week?

Entrepreneurship is the practice of starting new businesses or organizations, generally in response to identified opportunities or problems.

Entrepreneurs Week is an initiative of Student Entrepreneurs, a student-run organisation based at the University of Melbourne, in partnership with other organisations committed to promoting entrepreneurship and innovation on university campuses around Melbourne.

Kicking off with the Opening Ceremony on Friday 7 August, the events include presentations by prestigious speakers, panel discussions, workshops, mini-competitions and the signature event of the week, the Innovators’ Challenge in which teams are asked to create as much "value" as possible from an assigned everyday object and implement it in only six days.

Letter of Support from the Minister for Innovation

The Victorian Government is proud to support the second annual Entrepreneurs Week 2009.

At a time of global economic uncertainty, the Victorian Government believes the development and success of knowledge-based industries is fundamental to our state's continued economic growth. Integral to this success is ensuring the innovative and entrepreneurial minds of our future leaders are fostered through a range of learning opportunities.

Entrepreneurs Week 2009 offers Victorian undergraduate and graduate students many opportunities - not only for learning vital business techniques and for providing an understanding of the innovation process, but also for learning the important skills of effective communication, entrepreneurial thinking and teamwork. These skills will be invaluable as students make the transition into the workplace or future education and training, in turn ensuring Victoria remains a vibrant place to live, work, learn and invest.
